CRDS organizes programmes and executes projects to empower and strengthen the Self Help Groups members of Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts.
Women empowerment is the process of enabling women and girls to realize their full potential, exercise their rights, participate equally in social, economic, political, and cultural life, and make informed decisions about matters affecting their lives. It focuses on improving access to education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, financial resources, leadership roles, and legal protection. Women empowerment promotes gender equality, enhances self-confidence, strengthens decision-making abilities, and creates an environment where women can live with dignity, safety, and independence.
In rural communities, women empowerment is often achieved through self-help groups (SHGs), skill development programs, entrepreneurship promotion, financial inclusion initiatives, leadership training, health awareness programs, and advocacy for women's rights. Empowered women contribute significantly to family well-being, community development, poverty reduction, and sustainable economic growth.
