Chengalpattu Rural Development Society (CRDS) is a non-profit organization established in 1995 and serves as the official social service wing of the Diocese of Chengalpattu. Rooted in the values of justice, dignity, and compassion, CRDS is committed to the upliftment of poor and marginalized communities across the Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts of Tamil Nadu. For decades, the organization has been working towards building a more equitable and inclusive society through people-centered development initiatives.
Our focus is on empowering women, children, and youth through education, skill development, livelihood support, and community organization. We believe that sustainable development can only be achieved through active participation of the people themselves. Therefore, CRDS follows a participatory approach to development, working closely with communities to identify their needs, strengthen local leadership, and create long-term solutions that improve quality of life and social well-being.
Over the years, CRDS has implemented a wide range of programs including women self-help groups, supplementary education for children, vocational skill training for youth, community health initiatives, disability inclusion programs, and disaster relief and rehabilitation activities. The organization has played a significant role in responding to humanitarian crises such as the 2004 Tsunami, COVID-19 pandemic, floods, and cyclones, supporting thousands of affected families with relief, housing, livelihood restoration, and psychosocial care.
Driven by the vision of creating self-respect, self-reliance, and self-governance among rural communities, CRDS continues to work alongside the underserved and vulnerable sections of society. Through collaboration with local communities, government bodies, and development partners, CRDS strives to build resilient communities and create opportunities for a brighter and more sustainable future.
